VOTE FOR THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD

Created in 2012 by Derwent, the Derwent Art Prize rewards excellence by showcasing the very best artworks made in pencil by artists from around the world.

The 2026 prize received over 5,000 entries by  2,100 artists in 77 countries. The selectors - Charles Villeneuve De Janti, Modupeola Fadugba and Kathleen Soriano - shortlisted 71 artworks for the exhibition. The shortlisted works will be exhibited at OXO Gallery, London, from 9 April to 19 April 2026 and online.

The exhibition showcases a rich display of art in pencil, ranging from abstraction and experimentation to the hyper-realistic and expressive.

The Derwent Art Prize awarded prizes totalling over £13,500, including a First Prize of £4,000 plus a year's supply of Derwent products, to outstanding artists from the shortlist.

And the winners are:

  • First Prize, £4,000 and a year’s supply of Derwent products:

  • Second Prize, £2,000: 

Tamsin Nagel: Sweet Surprise (Tesco), 74 x 90.5cm, pencil on paper 2024

  • Young Artist First Prize, £4,000: 

Anya Kalsi, A Glimpse into Echoes of Entanglement, graphite charcoal, fine liners, 75 x 93cm, 2025

  • Young Artist Second Prize, £2,000: 

Ana Micaela Andoni, Metamorfose 1, graphite and acrylic gesso, 101 x 71cm, 2025

  • New Artist Award, £500: 

Laju Sholola, Portrait 26, Graphite, charcoal and conte on hand made paper, 67.31 x 53.34cm, 2023

  • Educators Award, £500: 

Tim Ashley: Natural History Museum, Oxford, mixed media, 116 x 170cm, 2024
